The silage rationing program was developed at the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland with funding from the Meat and Livestock Commission. The program is provided free of charge to interested parties to help improve the economic performance of silage fed cattle. The program can be downloaded onto your own pc and used offline.
The program uses the silage intake factor, or an intake predicted from the chemical composition of the silage. The program uses this value to predict the silage intake for types of animals which vary according to live weight, breed, sexual status and body condition.
